Winter Fuel Payments
28/11/2007
The Winter Fuel Payment is made to everyone, regardless of their income and, for those over 80, it can increase to as much as £300.
It is normally made automatically to anyone who is receiving a state pension in the qualifying week, which this year is the week beginning September 17th 2007. This means you don’t need to fill in any forms or make a claim.
If you think you are entitled to the Winter Fuel Payment but you are not receiving it, you should contact the Pension Service on 0845 915 1515 (text phone 0845 601 5613). Make sure you have your National Insurance number ready, as they will ask for it when you call.
Some people may also be able to claim a Cold Weather Payment if the weather is unusually bad. These are usually made if you are claiming certain benefits and have someone in your household who is over 60, under five or disabled. For more details, contact your local benefits office.
